USE WHAT YOU HAVE

When the angel of the Lord appeared to Gideon he said, “The Lord is with you mighty warrior.”  The Lord turned to him and said, “Go in the strength you have and save Israel out of the Midian’s hand.  Am I not sending you?” …  “I will be with you.”  Judges 6: 12, 14, 16

Gideon certainly did not feel mighty, or that he was a warrior when the angel spoke to him. You can read the story of Gideon and find a great deal of encouragement from it, You may also find things that you can relate to.

Israel was being terrorised by the Midianites, and God was asking Gideon to save his people Israel. God gave Gideon a mission, and a purpose, but somehow Gideon didn’t feel able to fulfil it.  He didn’t feel strong enough or brave enough to fight against the great opposition.

How many times in our lives we may feel like Gideon, that we are not strong enough to handle situations in our life. We may face opposition or challenges in different forms –relationship breakdown, singleness, financial crisis, unemployment, trouble in the church, trouble at work, education challenges, the list goes on. It may feel overwhelming, and we may not always know what to do.

There is one thing that we can be certain of, we have been told, “The Lord is with you mighty warrior.” So rest assured, whatever you face, you are not facing it alone.  You have an invisible army, you have the mighty power of God to help you in your time of need.

Gideon was told, “Go in the strength you have…”

Sometimes we are more concerned about what we don’t have, and believe that this is what is stopping us from making progress in our project, or in our life.  It is important therefore to assess what resources we actually have available to us, and to make a start in achieving our goals.

What skills do we have that we can use?  Do we have information that we have access to that can help us?  What resources do we have available to us? Who do we know that we can reach out to? They may be willing to share their knowledge and experience to help us to realise our goals.

God has a purpose for each one of us.  What is your purpose?  What is it that God wants you to do?  Ask him to show you and be willing to take action.  Whatever you are facing in life remember the words spoken to Gideon, “The Lord is with you … go in the strength you have.”
